Why people eat their pets

“Adorable, ain't it? Yeah...unfortunately, this little guy ended up on someone's dinner table.”

Reminds me of a time long ago, when I was about 11. I lived quite near to a stable that housed cattle, along with other farm animals.

Being the sensitive creature that I am, I developed friendship with a couple of Heffer's earmarked, (literally) for slaughter. This was during summer vacation, so I had plenty of time to get to know these two. All in all, they seemed like a happy pair of bovines. Lulling the days away, chewing on their cuds, pooping, eating, drinking, you know, hanging out, doing "cow stuff". Ahh...the good old days during kid hood. Then one day, it all came to an end. As usual, it started out a typical day. I went through my daily routine, breakfast with Wheaties, take a poop, and out the door I dashed to see my two friends. As I made my way to stables, I was confronted by a terrible sight! The most gruesome, horrible picture I have ever seen in my entire life!. One of my friends was missing, One of my friends had gone. (to "cow heaven"). What's worse is that as the cowboy butchered the steer, his friend, obviously in a state of terror, sorrow and uncertainty and fear., bawled like there was no tomorrow. And literally, can't make this shit up.) there would be no tomorrow for my other friend. The next day I came to comfort the other steer, but, unfortunately, I was a little late to comfort the poor creature. The cowboy went to work early that day It didn't make sense to me as I didn't think of them as "food". I thought of them and "pet's". In a way, they were to me, I got great joy into coming to visit the pair. As a child of a mother who continually moved us kids, I didn't get much of a chance to make friends. it gave me great joy bringing treats and patting their big tough cow skulls lovingly. (As a kid. I figured they would like that).

Pertinent Question: Why?

Why do people raise animals, a lot times from the beginning of birth, only to devour them at a later date? I've known about it, I've seen it being done, and to some people, it's normal. Yeah, I get it. As a pescatarian, I appreciate the fact that supermarkets provide food for us, the consumers, and that we don't have to get in a boat and cast a reel so that we can eat fish for dinner. I sometimes wonder about cattle though. If a person needed to eat meat in order to sustain life, would they go out and hunt for their food? The million-dollar question is this. Why do some people raise their own meat as pets and then slaughter them at the end of gustation period. (I hear that 3-5 weeks is the perfect time to eat some animals) lol! Millions of consumers do it, and they are perfectly fine with the entire concept of home-grown food. I almost sometimes think that it may be a good thing in the end. I guess I am okay with the idea. If an animal is care for and loved whilst he waits his execution, I am fully on board. As long as the animal is being treated kindly, being treated as a part of the family, (ironically, he will be part of the family by insertion).

*Choice: "animal and plant "

If you are interested in growing your own protein.
